Spotify has introduced a new option yesterday. Private listening mode. After the big announcement with deep Facebook integration at the F8 conference that has Spotify “scrobbling” all the songs you are listening to to Facebook some users have requested a way to temporarily disable this feature without turning it off completely. Good for parties when guests run amok on your computer and you don’t want show the world (Facebook is the world right?) their poor taste in music.
The new option can be found under the File menu and is called “Private Listening” if you enable this option it will be in effect until you turn it off again or until your next log in. When this option is turned on Spotify simply stops reporting your songs to Facebook.
If you want to disable the reporting full stop you can untick “Get personal recommendations by sending music you play to your Facebook Timeline” in Spotify options.
